Teachers as “Guides”
Dr. Maria Montessori always referred to the teacher as a “guide” and the role of a Montessori guide differs considerably from that of a traditional teacher. She is a very keen observer of the individual interests and needs of each child; opening a pathway to self-discovery in the child. Her daily work then develops from her observation rather than a prepared curriculum. Montessori guides’ main objective is to teach children independence, creativity and curiosity that they are born with to foster independent growth in each child.
