The Montessori Classrooms – Prepared Environment
Montessori classrooms are designed in such a way that children are encouraged to take part in an organized and structured self-directed learning environment. The classrooms are also designed in such a way that children of varying ages can be in one classroom at the same time, as opposed to a traditional school where all the children are of the same age and developmental stage. This is so that the older, more advanced children may assist in helping the younger children learn new things. The younger children will also be able to observe the older children as they receive lessons from their Montessori guides, and engage in the work accompanying them. By allowing children of varying ages to be in the same classrooms, guides are able to observe the learning ability of every child so that they may tailor lessons according to their ability.
